South India Travel Guide: Routes, Costs and the Best Time to Go

Seven routes through Bangalore, Mysore, Coorg, Wayanad, Ooty and Kodaikanal. This guide sets out what South India actually offers, what a trip
there costs, when to go, and how we run it — written from the routes we operate
ourselves rather than from a brochure.

Why South India is worth your leave

Our South India programme runs seven distinct routes from four to eleven nights, all in air-conditioned private vehicles sized to the group, across four accommodation categories. The per-head cost falls considerably as group size increases, which makes these particularly good value for families and friends travelling together.

What a trip costs

We run 7 itineraries here.
The lowest published rate is ₹ 11,800 per head. Every figure below is
per person and includes accommodation, the stated meal plan, private transport,
all sightseeing in the itinerary, and toll tax, parking and driver allowance.

A sample of the route

Taking Stunning South as an example —
Bangalore (1N) → Mysore (1N) → Ooty (2N), picking up at Bangalore Airport and dropping at Coimbatore Airport:

  1. Day 1, Bangalore — The Garden City of India and the capital of Karnataka is one of the prettiest and cleanest cities in the country, well known for its rapidly growing software industry. Visit Cubbon Park and the Government Museum, Tipu Sultan’s Palace, the Fort, the Bull Temple and the Venkatappa Art Gallery as time permits. Overnight at the hotel. Please note that the distances mentioned are measured from the city centre.
  2. Day 2, Mysore — Mysore, the royal city of Karnataka, has a great number of royal buildings, gardens, temples, museums and modern amusement parks. Visit the Chamarajendra Art Gallery, Mysore Zoo, the Maharaja’s Palace and Brindavan Gardens. Overnight at the hotel. Please note that Mysore Zoo remains closed on Tuesdays.
  3. Day 3, Ooty — Ooty is a picturesque landscape of deep forest, green meadows, vast tea gardens and tall eucalyptus trees. Visit the Botanical Garden, the tea estates and factories, and enjoy boating on Ooty Lake. Hiking and horse riding are also available here. Overnight at the hotel.
  4. Day 4, Ooty sightseeing — A second full day in the Nilgiris, covering the remaining viewpoints, tea estates and gardens at an unhurried pace. Overnight at the hotel.

Common questions before booking

What is the cheapest package you run?

Kalimpong Offbeat at ₹3,999 per head for three days and two nights, including homestay, all meals and NJP-to-NJP transport, for groups of seven adults or more.

Do you arrange airport or station pick-up?

Yes. Every package states its pick-up and drop point — NJP, New Mal Junction, Barabhum, Sonakhali, Guwahati, Srinagar, Port Blair, Bangalore and so on — and it is included.

What happens if the weather ruins a day?

Hill and island travel can be affected by landslides, snow, tides and ferry schedules. We will reorder the sightseeing or substitute an arrangement of comparable standard. Your safety decides, not the printed plan.

Planning your dates

Peak windows — the Pujas, December, and the Kashmir tulip season — fill six to
eight weeks ahead, and offbeat homestays have very few rooms between them. If your
dates are fixed, talk to us early. If they are flexible, tell us and we will
suggest the week that gives you the best weather and the best rate.
