The Silk Route is the old trading road that once carried wool, salt and silk between Kalimpong and Lhasa. Today it carries far fewer travellers than it deserves. The famous Zuluk loops stack up the mountainside in more than thirty hairpin bends, and on a clear morning the view from Thambi View Point takes in the whole Kanchenjunga range at sunrise.
This is a high-altitude route and we run it the way it should be run — in a private 8-seater vehicle with a driver who knows these bends, staying in local homestays rather than distant hotels, and with all meals included so that hot food is waiting when you come in from the cold. A four-night version is also available for travellers who want to add the higher lakes and give the body more time to acclimatise.
