Before there were airports, wool, salt and silk moved between Kalimpong and
Lhasa along this road. Most of it is still there, and you can still drive it.

The Zuluk loops
More than thirty hairpin bends stacked up a single mountainside. Seen from
above, the road looks like a dropped ribbon. Driven, it is a genuinely gripping
hour.
Thambi View Point at sunrise
Get up in the dark for this one. On a clear morning the entire Kanchenjunga
range lights up in sequence while the loops lie in shadow below you.

How we run it
Private 8-seater with a driver who knows these bends in every season. Local
homestays rather than distant hotels, so hot food is waiting when you come in from
the cold. All meals included.
Altitude, honestly
You cross above 11,000 feet. Move slowly, drink water, and speak up early if you
feel unwell. A four-night version gives the body more time to adjust.

Costs
₹5,555 per pax for 3 nights and 4 days, ₹7,249 for 4 nights and 5 days, minimum
eight travellers. Full details on the
Silk Route Expedition page.

Planning your dates
Peak windows — the Pujas, December, and the Kashmir tulip season — fill six to
eight weeks ahead, and offbeat homestays have very few rooms between them. If your
dates are fixed, talk to us early. If they are flexible, tell us and we will
suggest the week that gives you the best weather and the best rate.
