Sikkim’s two best bases in five days. Gangtok for the Nathula road — Tsomgo Lake frozen at the edges, Baba Harbhajan Singh’s mandir, and the Chinese border itself for those who take the optional permit — and Pelling for the mountain.
Pelling looks straight at Kanchenjunga across a single valley. From there you reach the Kanchenjunga and Rimbi falls, the orange gardens, the seventeenth-century Pemayangtse Monastery and the glass skywalk. The transfer between the two runs through Ravangla and Namchi.
Route: Gangtok 2N · Pelling 2N
Duration: 4 nights and 5 days
Starts and ends: Bagdogra / NJP / Siliguri
Day by day, here is exactly how Gangtok & Pelling unfolds — 4 nights and 5 days, starting and ending at Bagdogra / NJP / Siliguri.
Our representative will meet you at New Jalpaiguri and you will drive up to Gangtok along the Teesta — about four and a half hours of river, forest and hairpin bends. Check in and take the evening gently; M.G. Marg, the pedestrian mall at the heart of town, is a pleasant first walk. Lunch and dinner are included. Overnight at Gangtok.
An early start for the Nathula road. Tsomgo Lake sits at three thousand seven hundred metres and stays frozen at the edges well into spring; a little beyond it is the mandir built in memory of Baba Harbhajan Singh, which soldiers on both sides of the border still keep. Nathula Pass itself, on the old Silk Route into Tibet, can be added on a separate permit at extra cost. Overnight at Gangtok.
After breakfast you cross from East Sikkim to West — a long and genuinely beautiful drive through terraced hillsides, river gorges and pine forest, with stops at Ravangla and Namchi on the way. Pelling is reached by late afternoon, and on a clear evening Kanchenjunga stands directly across the valley from the hotel. Overnight at Pelling.
A full day in West Sikkim. The Kanchenjunga Falls and the Rimbi Waterfall first, then an orange garden and Pemayangtse Monastery, founded in 1705 and one of the oldest in Sikkim, with the ruins of the royal capital at Rabdentse just behind it. The glass Skywalk at Chenrezi closes the day. Overnight at Pelling.
After breakfast you bid farewell to Pelling and drive back down to New Jalpaiguri, timed comfortably around your onward train or flight. The tour concludes with memories that stay with you long after.
