Rajasthan Travel Guide: Routes, Costs and the Best Time to Go

Seven cities across eleven days, from Bikaner through the Thar to Jaipur. This guide sets out what Rajasthan actually offers, what a trip
there costs, when to go, and how we run it — written from the routes we operate
ourselves rather than from a brochure.

A sample of the route

Taking Rajasthan Grand Circuit as an example —
Bikaner (1N) → Jaisalmer (2N) → Jodhpur (1N) → Mount Abu (1N) → Udaipur (2N) → Pushkar (1N) → Jaipur (2N), picking up at Bikaner and dropping at Jaipur:

  1. Day 1, Bikaner — Arrive at Bikaner and check in. Visit Junagarh Fort, one of the few major forts in Rajasthan not built on a hilltop, along with the Lalgarh Palace and the local bazaars. Overnight at Bikaner.
  2. Day 2, Bikaner to Jaisalmer — Drive across the Thar to Jaisalmer, the golden city. Check in and spend the evening in the living fort, where families still occupy the lanes inside the walls. Overnight at Jaisalmer.
  3. Day 3, Jaisalmer and the Sam dunes — A full day covering Jaisalmer Fort, the Patwon Ki Haveli, Gadisar Lake and the Sam sand dunes for the sunset. Overnight at Jaisalmer.
  4. Day 4, Jaisalmer to Jodhpur — Drive to Jodhpur, the blue city, and visit Mehrangarh Fort standing high above the old town, along with Jaswant Thada and the Clock Tower market. Overnight at Jodhpur.

When to go

The window we recommend is October to March.
*Non A/C ₹ 22,899 per pax · A/C ₹ 24,899 per pax. Minimum 7 persons. Deluxe accommodation with daily breakfast and dinner.

Common questions before booking

Do Himachal rates change by season?

They do. Off season runs 6 January to 15 April and 10 July to 15 December; season is 15 December to 5 January and 15 April to 10 July. Both are quoted openly before you book.

Is the Rohtang and Atal Tunnel trip included in Shimla–Manali?

It is charged separately, by vehicle type, because access depends on conditions and permits. We will quote it with your package.

What is the Silk Route, and is it difficult?

The old trading road between Kalimpong and Lhasa, climbing through the Zuluk loops to high passes above 11,000 feet. It is a road journey, not a trek, but the altitude is real — we build in acclimatisation and run it on homestays with all meals included.

Planning your dates

Peak windows — the Pujas, December, and the Kashmir tulip season — fill six to
eight weeks ahead, and offbeat homestays have very few rooms between them. If your
dates are fixed, talk to us early. If they are flexible, tell us and we will
suggest the week that gives you the best weather and the best rate.
