Our Own Homestay at Sittong: Oranges, Mist and a Kitchen We Run Ourselves

For years we booked our travellers into other people’s homestays across the
Darjeeling offbeat belt. Good ones — properties we chose carefully. But there is
a limit to how much you can promise about a room you do not control.

So we opened our own

Sittong sits in the Darjeeling hills, famous for its oranges. The groves fall
down the slope in terraces, and the mornings arrive wrapped in mist that burns
off by ten. It is small, green and quiet in a way that is getting harder to find.

What waits for you there

  • Mist over the orange groves before the sun clears it
  • Kanchenjunga, on the days it decides to appear
  • Home-cooked food, served hot, as much as you want
  • Clean, safe, comfortable rooms
  • A family who lives there and treats you accordingly

Why owning it matters

We control the standard of the rooms, the quality of the food and the warmth of
the welcome directly. Nothing is subcontracted and nothing is left to chance. If
something is wrong, it is ours to fix, and we fix it.

When to come

Orange season runs roughly November to January and is the prettiest window.
March to May is green and mild. The monsoon is dramatic if you do not mind rain.

Call or WhatsApp 7872349359 to check dates — there are
only a few rooms, and they go early.

Common questions before booking

How do I cancel, and what will it cost?

Write to travel@sanjhbatitourism.com or confirm in writing on WhatsApp. Charges depend on how close to departure you cancel and on our suppliers’ own terms, all stated on your confirmation.

What cannot be refunded?

Peak-season and festival hotel bookings, inter-island cruise and ferry tickets, entry permits and any air or rail tickets issued for you. These are non-recoverable once confirmed.

Can I postpone instead of cancelling?

We would much rather reschedule than cancel. Postponement is subject to availability and to any seasonal rate difference. Talk to us first.

Planning your dates

Peak windows — the Pujas, December, and the Kashmir tulip season — fill six to
eight weeks ahead, and offbeat homestays have very few rooms between them. If your
dates are fixed, talk to us early. If they are flexible, tell us and we will
suggest the week that gives you the best weather and the best rate.
